Much has been said in the media of the damage that piracy off the coast of Somalia has caused to the Spanish tuna fishing fleet. And, therefore, of the need for Spain to participate actively in Atalanta, the EU anti-piracy operation. The purpose of this report is to question this need and, even more, the foreign interference in the area.

Desde el año 1989, el ejército español ha participado en más de sesenta operaciones en el exterior. La investigación realiza un estudio desde un punto de vista pacifista y crítico de estas operaciones. Se ha analizado el marco general de las operaciones militares en el exterior y se han analizado en profundidad las intervenciones en Afganistán, Líbano, Somalia y Haití.

Este estudio es fruto de la convocatoria de ayudas a la investigación RICIP 2009, concretamente corresponde con el proyecto de investigación Les missions militars d’Espanya a l’exterior (2009 RICIP 00008).

The report shows how the military industry has increased and created public debt, according to the authors this is an arms race bubble.
